The Last Wednesday Additional Needs Support Group

How We Started

The group began around 18 years ago at Potters Gate Sure Start Children’s Centre, initially funded by the Farnham Christian Community Trust. Over time, it transitioned to being run entirely by volunteers.

When the Centre closed in 2019, St Andrew’s Church in Farnham kindly offered us the free use of St Francis Hall for our monthly meetings.

Who We Are

The group is run by Joanna (whose sister has Down’s Syndrome), along with two long-standing parent members: Vanessa Goolding and Emma Fox.

We were delighted to welcome Jane Sadler — another mum — to the team in April 2025.

Monthly Meetings

We have many families on our group email list from both Surrey and Hampshire. Those who can make it are warmly invited to join us for home-made cake and a hot drink on the last Wednesday morning of every month during term time, from 9.30 to 11.30am.

If the date falls within a school holiday, we move the meeting forward by a week.

Preschoolers (and older children not currently in school, if appropriate) are very welcome. Toys are available, and we also have a small SEND book library.

Evening Meetings

Once every half term, we hold an evening meeting in the hall from 7.30 to 9.30pm to make it easier for those who work during the day to attend.

Please check our calendar for upcoming dates.

What We Offer

We provide friendship, support, and a confidential space to share experiences and knowledge — for parents and carers of children with additional needs, with or without a diagnosis.

We also host occasional SEND speakers and organise social nights out.

Join Us!

We’re an inclusive, friendly, and welcoming group. If you — or someone you know — would benefit from joining us, please do pass on our details.
